Abstract

This Note explains the context of such a renewal as well as the concerns raised by the 2021 law reinforcing respect for the principles of the Republic. This law infringes on the freedoms of worship, religion and association. The Constitutional Council’s responses to the appeal lodged jointly by the Catholic Church and the Orthodox and Protestant denominations did not resolve all the issues or provide the desired assurances, the Constitutional Council merely deferring to possible case law.
