Note on Some Recent Publications Concerning Abuse of Conscience

Abstract

The note analyses the main publications that have appeared in ecclesiastical circles concerning spiritual and conscience abuse, paying particular attention to proposals for canonical protection. The time frame studied ranges from 2019 to 2025, from Pope Francis' first references to the link between sexual abuse and abuse of power and conscience to the latest developments surrounding the figure of false mysticism and the study of a specific criminal offence relating to spiritual abuse.
